It is topped with two straight, cylindrical spouts pointed vertically. An arched handle connects the two spouts in the middle. The spouts and handle are a red brick color, and the body of the vessel is a light sand color. The surface of the vessel appears smooth with a burnished shine. It contains spotted cat iconography, painted in polychrome earth tones, and is divided into two registers.</text>

<text>The larger, primary register depicts two spotted feline forms resembling the pampas cat. The cats are outlined in dark brown, and filled in with grey, sand, and red brick colors. The cat’s eyes are round and the pupils are completely surrounded by white, giving the cat a stunned expression. There is no sense of light or shadows, rendering the imagery two-dimensional. In the smaller bottom register, separated from the top by a bold dark brown line, an abstract, geometric motif is repeated four times in dark brown and red brick colors. These motifs may depict half-suns, or perhaps the dividing line is meant to represent a ground line, and the motifs are a sort of crop. While the pampas cat figures contain biomorphic shapes, the rays of the motif are triangles, and its centers are composed of concentric arches. The arches in the motifs are alternating red brick and dark brown with the sand background showing in between.</text>

It is evident that the shapes are supposed to resemble fruit because of their common round fruit shape. The fruit looks as if it could be some kind of tomato or pear. The shiny texture and reduced atmosphere shows that this piece was burnished very well and leaves the surface with a smooth finish. There is no pattern or rough texture on the surface which gives the pot a basic and functional look. The style of this piece is common in Chimu pottery because of its dark color and shiny finish that are achieved through high temperatures in a shut kiln.</text>

The vessel is a monochrome blackware with raised dot designs, burnished line patterns, and a dividing line between the upper and the lower half of the vessel. The end of the spout has a sculptured humanoid face, facing the opposite direction of the handle. The spout appears to be broken at the top, exposing the ceramic. There are areas near the spout that appear discolored, indicating that the vessel is possibly becoming worn down. The mouth of the human figure is closed with no indicative facial expressions and the eyes appear to be open.</text>

<text>There is a repeating pattern around the top half of the sphere of a noticeably thick, raised line curving inwards. There are four of these, each in its own quadrant. There is a thick, raised, line circling underneath the face that extends downward in a straight line. This eventually connects to the line separating the upper and the lower half of the object. The vessel was most likely made from a mold because of the visible seams and gray appearance evident in the object. The human-like face does not appear to be a portrait of an actual person, indicating a generic representation of a human. This could also support the theory that this vessel was created with a mold. If it was made from a mold, there could be other vessels similar to the one described here.</text>

<text>The object is a blackware ceramic from the Chimu culture during the Late Intermediate Period (900AD - 1476AD.). It is shaped with a narrow-mouthed spout that slopes into a wide chamber for holding liquids. There is a handle that begins at the middle of the neck of the spout to the middle of the pot, giving the carrier a wide amount of space to hold the object. The overall material of the objects appears to be made with a reducing, burnishing technique, giving the object a glossy, blackware appearance that accentuates the smooth, curved angles of the ceramic. Attached to the foot of the spout is a three-dimensional, appliqued monkey with alert eyes and a relaxed body as it grasps to the spout, mimicking how a monkey would grasp a tree in the wild. The mass of the object is a pot with its focus on its smooth, shiny surface. Throughout the surface of the pot, the viewer can see the wear of the object, with scratches and patching of the burnishing revealing a tan base color underneath, showcasing the reducing technique. The base of the chamber depicts two rows of full-body profiles of monkeys in a geometric pattern all facing left in the same pose. There is much wear on the base of the object, but the geometric pattern remains visible as they are indented into the object. Above, in between, and below the rows of monkeys have two lines incised in between, most likely to accentuate its symmetry.</text>
